⋅◈⋅ Who are the Wixarika’s? ⋅◈⋅
The Wixariaka people, also known as Huicholes, are an indigenous community from Sierra Madre Occidental in the states of Jalisco, Zacatecas, Durango, and Nayarit in Mexico. Wixarika spirituality is based on the connection with the four elements - earth, wind, fire, water - and the powers of different energy locations in Mexico. The Wixaritari culture is one of the few cultures that survived colonization and the only one that maintains its annual migration to its sacred sites. In recent years, the Wixaritari of La Laguna San Andres Cohaniata, a community in Jalisco, has made it their duty to renew the world, which they pray for in every forgotten sacred place in the world.
⋅◈⋅ The Wixarika prayer ⋅◈⋅
The Wixaritari ceremonial journey involves spiritual introspection, a direct connection to your inner self, and connection to the powers. First we cleanse ourselves of all outside energies in order to concentrate only on our own. The Makarame Doña Micaela sings and brings the strength to the fire. The healing and prayers begin, which are accompanied by five courses of singing throughout the night. At sunrise we start a new day full of gratitude.
⋅◈⋅ Marakame Micaela Jiménez Lopez (Tkaima) ⋅◈⋅
Micaela Tkaima was born 50 years ago in the Wixarika community of Tateikie in the remote mountains of Sierra Madre in the North of Mexico. She has been keeping the tradition in different ceremonial centers, from a young age (11 years old) she received the charge of keeping the sacred Corn for 5 years in a ceremonial center, doing the offerings and pilgrimages in all sacred sites of the Wixarika world. She also has completed different important charges in the main ceremonial center. She is a Medicine woman that is keeping the tradition strongly and standing for the feminine work in this path and is a strong support for the “Moon dance” in Costa Rica. She's also a carrier of the sacred Chanupa (pipe) that she received during the Moon Dance. She's a Happy mother of 4 kids, a grandmother, a farmer and artisan and she has been leading ceremonies and offerings together with Elder Marakame's all over the Wixarika sacred places, through Mexico and recently in the last 9 years, in the sacred sites in Europe , Central America and Southern Africa.
