Belle Époque Magique: Tango Trio

Accordionist Augustinas Rakauskas and violist Greta Staponkutė-Rakau (of Ollon) will be joined by Leysin pianist Macha Hulin for this performance. Tango dancers Nikita Gerdt and Anastasija Smirnova will take part in the concert that night, and will give a dance workshop earlier in the evening.

Why is the Argentine Tango gaining tremendous popularity around the world? How did the tango emerge, and why? How is tango danced and what's so challenging about it?

You are warmly welcomed to our introductory tango workshop and performance, where you will experience Argentinian tango as a creative social dance, and together, we will find the answers to these questions.

We will present the scope of Argentine tango dance as a cultural phenomenon in all its richness and complexity, including a short tour into tango history, demonstrating different tango dance types and styles that are danced today. 

The participants will be invited to actively engage in a firsthand experience of the tango dynamics in a couple. With accompanying music, they will take their first steps in this beautiful dance.
